They say reading someone’s diary and looking at their playlists are the same thing — because whatever we care about, from art to sport, shapes our taste in music. So it is impossible for news from the world of FIFA, one of gamers’ greatest passions, not to show up in the songs people stream on Spotify…

Ahead of FIFA 23’s release on 30 September, the game’s soundtrack, curated in partnership between Spotify and EA SPORTS, has been released for players. Alongside the list, which features both cult and new artists, Spotify shared data on FIFA fans’ listening habits. Sweden takes the crown as the most FIFA-obsessed country, followed by Norway and Denmark. Other highlights:

  • Spotify currently hosts 423,318 user-created playlists with FIFA in the title.
  • Sweden has the most FIFA playlists per user, earning it the title of most FIFA-obsessed country, followed by Norway and Denmark.
  • This year’s soundtrack features iconic songs players are already listening to: globally, 21.1 million playlists include at least one song from the official FIFA 23 soundtrack.
  • As of today, the most popular song on the EA SPORTS FIFA 23 soundtrack is “Ojitos Lindos” by Bad Bunny and Bomba Estéreo.

What does it mean for brands?

  • Listening data is a powerful signal of an audience’s interests. Where passions such as gaming, sport and music meet, natural partnership opportunities arise for brands.
  • Turning data into a story (like “the most FIFA-obsessed countries”) transforms an ordinary announcement into shareable content.
